Foundation for Change: Teresa’s Journey to Homeownership

Standing in her new, almost finished home, Teresa Garcia stands on the precipice of a new chapter in her life. Assisted by her daughter as a translator, Teresa shared her story of resilience, hope, and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream- owning her own home through Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity.
Teresa Garcia’s journey to homeownership has been one of perseverance and determination. Through the Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity program, she has found not just a house but a sanctuary where her children can thrive and grow.
“For me, being a homeowner means having a dream come true,” Teresa shares. “It’s more than just a place to live; it’s a haven where my children can build their futures.”
Navigating the process of building her home with Habitat for Humanity has been a transformative experience for Teresa and her family. “We came into this with no experience,” she explained. “But Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity has given us the opportunity to learn and grow.”
Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live resonates deeply with Teresa. She believes that achieving this vision will lead to stronger communities where neighbors support one another, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
“Right now, it all feels like a dream,” she says. “But my vision is for everyone to come together, to be good neighbors, and to share in the joy of having a place to call home.”
Through Teresa’s experiences, we witness the remarkable transformation fueled by hope, resilience, and the support of her community. Through the guiding hand of Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity, Teresa not only realizes her dream of homeownership but also rediscovers a profound sense of identity and belonging. As she embarks on this new journey, Teresa’s narrative stands as a testament to the enduring power of determination and the unwavering support of those around her, inspiring us all to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.
With each brick laid and each nail hammered, Teresa’s dream edges closer to reality. Her story serves as a beacon of hope for others who may be facing similar challenges, showing them that with determination and the support of their community, anything is possible.
“It’s not just about having a roof over our heads,” she said. “It’s about creating a place where my children can feel safe and secure, where they can grow and thrive. That’s what homeownership means to me.”
As Teresa’s story continues to unfold, she looks forward to the day when she can finally welcome friends and family into her new home, sharing with them the joy and pride that comes with homeownership. As she does so, she knows that she will always be grateful for the support and guidance she received from Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity and the community that rallied around her.

Teresa’s journey is far from over, but with each step she takes, she moves closer to the future she has always dreamed of- a future filled with hope, happiness, and the warmth of a place to call home.
