Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity builds and sells homes to hard-working people in need of decent and affordable housing. Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity is a part of a global, nonprofit housing organization that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. Habitat was founded on the conviction that everyone deserves a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
Mission: Seeking to put God's love into action. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
History: In the early 1990's, a small group of like-minded individuals recognized a need for affordable housing in Kittitas County. A grass-roots movement started by these volunteers created the first Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Ellensburg, WA.
In 1993, the affiliate selected its first partner family and broke ground on the first home. Since that time, our affiliate has completed 19 new-construction homes, three Critical Home Repair projects, and 5 A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) projects. Between our Habitat Store and the construction office, we now have 11 staff members, 6 active board members, at least 500 volunteers each year, 19 partner families, and over 500 supporting individuals and businesses.
In 2009, we expanded our service area to all of Kittitas County with a vision to serve more families while also increasing house production. Over that time, we have grown from building less than one house per year on average to completing two-plus homes per year. In 2015 the Critical Home Repair and ABWK programs were added to the services Habitat provides in our community.
In 2019, we sought to develop a strategic partnership with our sister affiliate, Seattle-King County Habitat for Humanity, to help us meet some of the challenges we faced. With the partnership, we have the needed resources and support to continue help families within our county find their forever home.
In 2020, Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity, formerly joined with our affiliate, Seattle-King Habitat for Humanity, and look forward to being able to help more families in Kittitas County, as a result.
